Lake Mary Preparatory Academic
Year
Learning Unlimited International Schools, Inc. was founded by
Bill and Pouneh Alcott in the fall of 1976 as a year-round
Preschool and kindergarten in Columbus, Ohio. Throughout the years,
the program expanded to become a preschool through twelfth grade
program with campuses in Ohio, Florida, and the Caribbean island of
St. Maarten.
Situated in a suburb of Orlando, Florida, Lake Mary Preparatory
School was opened in the fall of 1999. Spanning forty-eight acres,
the school serves students in grades PreK through twelve. The
initial phase of the Lake Mary campus included a 45,000 square foot
building containing classrooms, laboratories for science, computer
labs, art, instrumental and vocal music rooms, a library/media
center, a regulation sized gymnasium, a well-equipped performance
stage, a serving kitchen, two lunchrooms, administrative offices,
and ample outdoor recreational space. Phase II, which was completed
in 2002, provided an additional 22,000 square foot lower school
building, a football/soccer field, track, baseball field, outdoor
basketball courts, a five-court tennis complex, and a playground.
The lower school building contains classrooms, a media/computer
lab, art room, lunchroom, operational kitchen, and administrative
offices. Lake Mary Preparatory School underwent evaluation for
accreditation from the Florida Council of Independent Schools in
2003, after which full accreditation from the Florida Kindergarten
Council, as well as the Florida Council of Independent Schools was
received.
In 2003 Lake Mary Preparatory School expanded with the addition of
the Junior Academy of Lake Mary Prep, a fully accredited member of
the Florida Kindergarten Council. The Jr. Academy of Lake Mary
serves students Preschool through Pre-K. The school’s program
is based on the same mission as LMP and maintains a very high
standard as an early preparatory school.
In 2007, Lake Mary Prep joined with The Meritas Family of
International Preparatory Schools. Meritas is an international
family of private schools. Each school in the Meritas family is a
student-centric community sharing certain core values as well as
the privileges and opportunities of belonging to a worldwide
network, while still enjoying a high degree of local administration
and the special characteristics arising from its unique setting,
traditions, history, and culture. By attending Meritas schools,
students are exposed to diverse cultures, languages, and settings,
preparing them for success in an increasingly global economy.
All Meritas schools are academically aggressive and strive for
excellence for their students and their learning communities. They
define and share “best practices” and are always
seeking to improve. They are unrelentingly engaged in inspiring
every student to achieve his or her full potential, and toward that
end, they offer a wide array of learning and growth experiences in
