Welcome to the Fine Arts Department!
The World of the Arts seems to be a refreshing haven to some, and a
serious mystery to others! Here at Lake Mary Preparatory School we
strive to teach our students that the Arts are represented in the
daily lives of us all - from the music we hear on the radio, to the
pictures on the wall, or even the garden in our own back yard! In
our program we have a dual approach to teaching about the Arts,
through our course offerings and through exposure. Our course
offerings include A Survey of the Arts, 2 Dimensional Design,
Ceramics, Graphic Arts, Broadcasting, Music, and Dance. These
courses offer the student the chance to learn appropriate
techniques and principles. In addition to this “formal”
training, we embrace the idea that exposure to the Arts through
local field trips, visiting artists, and trips abroad can all prove
to be valuable, life changing experiences for our students.
It’s often been said that a culture is defined by its art
– quite a statement! And for that reason, we encourage our
students to visit any of the cultural hot spots around Central
Florida and to participate in any travel opportunities that come
along. One of our favorite spots to visit is the Spanish Colonial
City of Oaxaca, Mexico. From ceramics to hand woven rugs, along
with it’s internationally recognized regional cuisine, Oaxaca
is rich with artistic achievement and innovation. In addition,
we’ve traveled to Puerto Rico for a taste of Caribbean living
and colorful traditions. Don’t be surprised if you see the
Fine Arts department headed out for another cultural adventure
soon!
Finally, the Arts Department couldn’t be a success without
the involvement of our parents. The new Griffin Arts Guild is a
