Computer Programming
(JAVA)
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop
knowledge of programming concepts and one or more languages. The
course will include, but not be limited to, the following:
programming concepts and techniques, development and use of
programming language(s), sequential, logical problem solving,
algorithms and flowcharts, syntax, vocabulary, and data structures,
writing, testing, and debugging computer programs, ethical, social,
and historical implications. Students will learn, in a hands-on
laboratory setting, the fundamentals of object -oriented design
through an in-depth study and analysis of the java programming
language. Our textbook will be Java Programming by Joyce Farrell,
third edition. Students will perform various projects and
laboratory tasks throughout the year as outlined in the textbook
and class lectures.
High School Programming
Competitions
Students will compete in the ACM sponsored High School Programming
Competitions held at Stetson University and the University of
Central Florida. This is a great opportunity for students to put
their skills to the test in an exciting, competitive , and most
importantly, fun setting. Prizes include scholarships to the
respective universities.
AP Computer Science
Note: This course may be taken prior to the junior year by teacher
permission only.
This course includes study of programming methodology, features of
programming languages, data types and structures, algorithms,
applications of computing, and computer systems. Students take the
AP Computer Science exam upon completion.
