Early Childhood School

Lake Mary Preparatory School’s youngest scholars are nurtured in a caring environment that fosters the development of each child’s potential and worth.  This strong foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills in these formative years creates the framework for life-long learning. The primary program stresses the life skills of integrity, initiative, flexibility, perseverance, organization, sense of humor, effort, common sense, problem solving, responsibility, patience, friendship, curiosity, cooperation, caring, courage, pride, and participation through the school year.

The primary curriculum actively involves children in the learning process and provides enriching experiences in the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical domains while preparing students to be productive citizens. This curriculum is presented using a thematically integrated approach to teaching core disciplines. Our Pre-kindergarten three  year old program, with a option of a half-day and full-day program, focuses on language concepts, pre-mathematics, social skills, and fine and gross motor development.  Junior kindergarten, a full-day program, is experimental in nature and provides learning experiences in all domains.  Its core curriculum consists of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, while computers, music, and physical education enrich this curriculum.  The language arts program emphasizes reading, writing, speaking, and listening; the mathematics program emphasizes an experimental approach to mathematical ideas and concepts; social studies, science, and health broaden awareness of the world and how students interact with it.
