On October 26th, Lake Mary Prep will be hosting the Lake Scary 5K Run/Walk for Cerebral Palsy. The idea for this event came about this past summer when most 13-year-olds were in summer camp, Ben, Theo, Martin and Adrian were in committee meetings. The four Lake Mary Prep students, coincidentally two sets of twins, are best friends. They have a lot in common, including a better-than-average understanding of Cerebral Palsy. That’s because Ben’s been dealing with the affects his whole life. Although Theo, Martin and Adrian are quick to say CP doesn’t limit their friend or their friendship, they know that many who suffer from this congenital disorder struggle with even simple movements like standing and eating. In the spring, Martin began looking for a CP awareness or fundraiser the four friends could participate in. When he learned no such event existed in Seminole County, he wasn’t discouraged. He was determined. The boys went to their parents, reached out to their school, contacted UCP of Central Florida and the Cerebral Palsy International Research Foundation and got to work. It wasn’t a typical summer, but it’s one they’ll always remember. The movement that started with four friends grew, took shape and found a name: Lake Scary 5K Run/Walk for Cerebral Palsy. Lake Mary Prep is honored to be hosting this event!
