In Upper School, the MAP, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and Advanced Placement tests help ensure students are achieving their potential in relation to peers across the country and around the world.

Students build confidence as multilingual communicators through the study of Spanish and Chinese through advanced programs. In Spanish, they progress from foundational communication in Spanish I – II to greater fluency, accuracy, and cultural analysis in Honors Spanish III – IV. In Chinese, students strengthen practical language skills in Chinese I – II and expand their fluency through more advanced grammar, authentic materials, and cultural exploration in Honors Chinese III – IV.
Supported by interactive technology, real-world digital resources, and engaging classroom experiences, Upper School students refine their fluency, deepen their cultural understanding, and strengthen their confidence as global communicators. Progress is assessed through teacher feedback, class participation, presentations, written work, and graded evaluations.
Students bring language learning to life through annual international trips that turn global exploration into real-world learning. With recent destinations including London, Paris, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Iceland, these experiences help learners apply their communication skills in authentic settings while deepening cultural understanding.
Class trips provide meaningful, memorable experiences where students build connections with classmates and teachers through exciting, shared adventures while developing essential life skills including adaptability, independence, communication, resilience, and confidence.
Through International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOS), learners connect with peers across the ISP network and engage in collaborative global experiences beyond the classroom. These opportunities strengthen international mindedness, encourage meaningful exchange, and help learners build the confidence and perspective to thrive in an interconnected world.
Individualized college guidance begins in Grade 9, giving students and families a clear, strategic pathway to university success. Through highly personalized advising, students make informed academic and extracurricular choices, prepare early for testing, financial aid, and scholarships. They benefit from experienced counselors who support every stage of the process, including recommendation letters and athletics-specific guidance.
Workshops, guest speakers, panel discussions, information sessions, and individual counseling further strengthen each learner’s journey, contributing to exceptional outcomes.
At Lake Mary Preparatory School students can access the prestigious Collage Board AP Capstone™ Program, growing into curious, self-directed, and collaborative scholars.
The AP Capstone™ Program helps students develop the research, argumentation, and communication skills that sit at the heart of college readiness and lifelong learning. By building on the rigor of AP coursework in an interdisciplinary setting, learners analyze complex issues, evaluate evidence, and present well-supported ideas with clarity and confidence.
Through collaborative projects, presentations, and a 5,000-word scholarly research paper, students demonstrate the writing, inquiry, and teamwork skills that colleges value and that support long-term academic success.
The program also gives students a meaningful way to stand out in the college admissions process, while providing colleges and universities with clear, externally validated evidence of their readiness for higher-level study.
The AP Capstone™ Program combines AP Seminar and AP Research to strengthen and extend students’ learning across other AP courses. Typically beginning with AP Seminar in grade 10 or 11 and continuing with AP Research, students build advanced skills in argument-based writing, research, analysis, and presentation that support success across disciplines.
Students can earn two types of accolades:
AP Seminar challenges students to strengthen their analytical and inquiry skills through the exploration of complex, real-world issues drawn from multiple perspectives. In this yearlong course, students read critically, evaluate arguments, conduct research, and communicate their ideas through writing, presentations, and collaborative work. As they engage with articles, research studies, speeches, texts, and artistic works, students make logical, evidence-based decisions and present well-supported arguments.
Assessment Learners complete two through-course performance tasks, a team project and presentation, and an individual research-based essay and presentation, as well as a final AP exam in May. Together, these assessments measure students’ ability to analyze sources, construct arguments, and communicate effectively, contributing to a final AP score of 1 to 5.
AP Research gives students the opportunity to design, plan, and carry out a yearlong investigation on a topic that matters to them, allowing learners to apply academic research to real-world questions and challenges. Whether students choose to explore a topic connected to another AP course, pursue an interdisciplinary question, or investigate a new area of personal interest, AP Research strengthens the independence, intellectual curiosity, and academic discipline that colleges value most.
Assessment Students complete a through-course performance task that culminates in a 4,000 – 5,000-word academic paper and a formal presentation with an oral defense before the College Board. Together, these components assess students’ ability to conduct in-depth research, construct and defend an original argument, and communicate their findings with clarity and authority.
Community service
Students actively serve both the Lake Mary Prep community and the wider local community through meaningful service opportunities on and off campus. As they give their time, talents, and leadership in support of others, they make a positive impact while also building hours that support eligibility for NHS, Key Club, and the Bright Futures Scholarship.
Experiential learning
Experiential learning is huge at LMP. A recent activity involved Upper School students designing and building custom planter boxes as a cross-curricular experience. These boxes are now used to plant flowers for environmental studies and grow fresh fruits and vegetables for other academic courses.
Debate team
Our private high school in Orlando has boasted a competitive debate team since the 2008-09 school year. Students compete in a variety of categories including Student Congress, extemporaneous speaking, original oratory, dramatic performance, oral interpretation of literature, Public Forum Debate and Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

I wanted to join Lake Mary Prep because it always felt like a place where I could grow both academically and personally. Since I started here in 1st grade, the school has always felt like a second home, and I’ve built so many friendships and memories along the way. I’ve stayed because of the supportive teachers, the strong community, and all the opportunities to be involved in sports, academics, and school events. Being here through 10th grade has helped shape who I am today.
