From drama productions to musical performances, students at Lake Mary Preparatory School participate in a wide range of age-appropriate explorations in the realm of performing arts. The students know the joy of creating something together and the pleasure of sharing their gift through performances.
In our elementary school in Orlando, FL, students are introduced to Early Strings, a foundational violin program beginning in Grade 1, building skills in rhythm, pitch, and ensemble performance from an early age. As students progress, they can pursue Music & Digital Arts, exploring the technological side of music, the curriculum bridges the gap between fine arts and technology. Elective opportunities include music production, digital media, and filmmaking.
Across Middle and Upper School, learners deepen their technique, creativity, and confidence through both classical and modern performance opportunities. Orchestra students advance in violin, viola, and cello, chorus students strengthen vocal technique and stage presence, and high school musicians can collaborate in Rock Band as part of a real ensemble experience.
Together, these opportunities create a music program that blends strong artistic foundations with creativity, collaboration, and modern expression.
Students in Lower, Middle, and Upper School build confidence, creativity, and performance skills through a theater program that introduces them to acting technique, stagecraft, design, and a range of theatrical styles. With at least two major on-campus productions each year, students also have regular opportunities to perform and to represent Lake Mary Prep in district and state thespian competitions.
Learners can further develop their talents through courses in acting for stage and film, where they strengthen skills in performance, script analysis, directing, and design. These experiences may also include participation in Florida Thespian competitions and collaboration with local film studios.
At Lake Mary Preparatory School, students learn various techniques of art including drawing, painting, sculpting, pottery, and more.
Through artistic exploration, students build the confidence, creativity, and critical thinking skills that help them thrive in school and beyond. As they create, improvise, and express ideas through both images and words, they strengthen self-awareness, learn to value different perspectives, and develop a lifelong appreciation for beauty, meaning, and the work of others.
In our art studios, students are exposed to a variety of ideas and materials ranging from cut paper to ceramic sculpture.
The Lower School studio has space for a variety of projects, as well as resource materials to teach young students about art history, and the Upper School studios are equipped with potter’s wheels, kilns for both ceramic and glasswork, and work surfaces for two and three-dimensional projects.
During Lower School students explore the world of art through a vast array of projects ranging from a simple pencil drawing to creating plastic flowers. Projects introduce students to many different mediums (paint, graphite, plaster, clay, etc.) and to the history of art and famous artists.
In our well-organized and brightly outfitted art studio, our learners study the masters and even social issues, including the use of recycled materials.
Our Middle School Art students participate in a semester or, schedule permitting, a full year of art. Middle School art courses are project-based but stress the use of common design strategies and techniques.
Projects often include papier mache, graffiti art, drawing, and painting. Middle School students may also participate in art competitions and attend a variety of art festivals.
Students learn and explore the world of graphic design, video development, and production. From digital image editing to producing video content for events, they collaborate with each other to build the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the world of digital media.
In our TV broadcasting and film classes, students learn to work as a team, act with professionalism, and meet deadlines. They're frequently seen around campus with video cameras or pouring over the computer screens as they edit their final work. Film students study the evolution of film, the art of videography, and screenwriting. Learners collaborate in teams, working on a variety of projects such as Public Service Announcements, a children's movie, a documentary, or a short film of personal choice.
Graphic Design & Animation classes are offered to both Middle School and Upper School students. These courses are designed to introduce students to the foundational elements of visual communication.
Learners explore all types of creativity through 3D, video, digital illustration, and page layout techniques. A variety of Adobe software applications are used within both classes to broaden the foundational skills within graphic design and animation.
At one of the best private high schools in Orlando, students have the opportunity to work on the yearbook throughout the duration of the year as an elective course. Through this collaborative and highly-technical course, they gain essential skills for success as they work through layout design, photography, copy-writing, and advertising sales.
Photography courses are available to students who desire to learn more about the fundamental skills of digital photography. They learn to master photo composition on a DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) and demonstrate their creativity through photo-editing software to bring out the best in their photographs.

Lights, Camera, Action... My name is Kevin Marshburn and I teach TV Production, Film and Digital Marketing to the Middle and Upper School students at Lake Mary Preparatory School. I have always had an interest in film and the entertainment industry, which led me to a Bachelor’s degree in Film from Full Sail University and several years of experience working on commercial, television and film sets in New York City. Before coming to LMP in 2018, I taught Digital Video Production for 3 years and another Central Florida High School.After the school day is over, my role at LMP includes recording and streaming school events and sports with the students. I enjoy relaxing at home with my wife and 2 kids (we watch a lot of movies, of course), and I am a huge college football fan.
