At our private school in Orlando, we recognize that students’ academic, social, emotional, and health needs can evolve at any stage of their school journey. Our Counseling and Academic Support teams work closely with families to provide guidance, identify needs, and help students access the support they need to thrive. Through Social-Emotional Learning and health services, learners are supported in building confidence and wellbeing.
At Lake Mary Preparatory School, counseling is a steady and reassuring source of support throughout a student’s journey. In Lower School, counselors help students build strong social-emotional foundations through classroom lessons, small groups, and individual check-ins that nurture confidence, relationships, and overall wellbeing. In Secondary School, that support expands to address the growing academic, personal, and future-focused needs of adolescents, including executive functioning, goal setting, accommodations, and referrals when appropriate. At every level, our counselors partner closely with families and faculty to help each student feel supported, understood, and equipped to thrive.
The Griffin Learning Support Program’s purpose is to assist students with learning challenges so they can become independent, confident learners ready to successfully meet LMP’s academic standards. Students with mild to moderate learning differences are empowered with self-awareness, self-advocacy, and study strategies, to help them overcome learning differences and inside and outside the classroom.
Students may access learning support through a teacher referral or a recent psychoeducational evaluation. If academic challenges arise, teachers review classroom performance, assessments, and observations to identify needs and guide next steps. When appropriate, the school may also recommend an outside evaluation to provide deeper insight into a student’s learning profile and inform support planning.
Students with diagnosed learning differences meet with the Griffin Learning Support team for a personalized support plan.
All students receive Tier 1 support within the general education classroom. Classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and learning specialists work alongside students through push-in or pull-out support to strengthen learning and help students succeed. There is no fee for Tier 1 support.
Tier 2 support provides targeted instruction in a small-group or one-to-one setting, with the level of support based on how often a student meets with the Learning Specialist. In Level 1, students attend one 30–45 minute session per week, while in Level 2, students attend two 30–45 minute sessions per week for more frequent support.
In both levels, families meet with the Learning Specialist once each semester to set Learning Plan goals, and student progress is monitored regularly throughout the quarter. Fees vary based on the evidenced tier.
Students who require support beyond Tier 2 may work with an outside provider, as LMP does not offer Tier 3 services or therapies that require more frequent intervention. The school does not provide Exceptional Student Education programs, private counseling, speech and language services, or occupational therapy.

Activities
Students engage in daily activities, specially designed lessons, and school-wide initiatives encouraging them to understand their emotions, communicate respectfully, and solve problems constructively. Special guests address real-world issues, inspiring students to think critically, engage with diverse perspectives, and connect their learning to the broader world.
Community involvement
Our service learning projects empower students to take meaningful action in their communities, fostering a strong sense of purpose and global responsibility.
They make a positive impact while also building hours that support eligibility for NHS, Key Club, and the Bright Futures Scholarship.

At Lake Mary Preparatory School, students are cared for by a dedicated school nurse who supports their health and wellbeing. From treating injuries and illness to administering approved medications, the nurse helps students feel safe, comfortable, and ready to learn.
Our on-campus health clinic is safe space provides support for illnesses or injuries that happen while students are at school.

Introducing Christian Pope, a trained mental health professional with a background in clinical mental health, as well as school counseling in a variety of settings. Christian provides daily support to students and staff to ensure that students' academic, social, and emotional needs are being met. Christian strives to connect with each student in a way that fosters a trusting relationship, allows for constructive feedback, and promotes their overall well-being.Christian also works first-hand with teachers to ensure that social emotional learning is prioritized daily in our classrooms. Christian supports teachers by providing resources, conducting group SEL sessions, and meeting individually on a regular basis. Christian is also our Head Boys Basketball coach and Key Club sponsor. Christian believes that visibility and positivity are the most important factors in establishing trust with students.
Raine Cromer is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified School Counselor who has been serving the Lake Mary Preparatory School community since the 2023–2024 school year. With a strong foundation in both school-based and clinical mental health, she is dedicated to supporting students’ emotional well-being and helping them build the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.Bringing a collaborative and proactive approach, Mrs. Cromer partners closely with teachers, families, and staff to ensure students receive thoughtful, coordinated care. At Lake Mary Prep, she leads the implementation of a social-emotional learning (SEL) program for elementary students and provides individualized support, including brief counseling, crisis intervention, and peer mediation.In addition, Mrs. Cromer serves as the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead, acting as a primary point of contact for student support concerns while overseeing safeguarding practices, training, and protocols. Her work is grounded in a strong belief in early intervention and the importance of creating a safe, supportive environment where all students feel seen, supported, and ready to learn.
My name is Gayla Rice and I've been a nurse for 25 years. Over the last 4-5 years, I've been subbing in the LMP Clinic off and on, but I'm proud to now be here full time. I am a mother of 5 and have 5 grandchildren. I spend way too much time playing games on my phone and I love to read my bible. I am really enjoying my time here at LMP!
