At Lake Mary Preparatory School, we pride ourselves on fostering an environment where students aren't just consumers of information, but creators of solutions. Nothing exemplifies this mission better than our Odyssey of the Mind program, which recently saw our teams deliver a series of standout performances at the Regional Competition. Our Griffins showcased exceptional talent and teamwork, earning high marks across multiple divisions: Middle School Team B: 1st Place Overall Middle School Team A: 2nd Place Overall and 1st Place in the Spontaneous Category Lower School Team: 2nd Place Overall and 1st Place in the Spontaneous Category The Art of the Independent Solution Odyssey of the Mind is a unique international program where the "No Outside Assistance" rule is absolute. Every script written, every costume sewn, and every technical device built was created entirely by the students themselves. Over the course of the season, our teams spent countless hours in the brainstorming and construction phases. They didn't just find an answer; they designed, tested, and perfected solutions to intricate technical and artistic problems. Whether it was engineering a structure to hold weight or creating a theatrical performance with specific constraints, our students proved that they are masters of the creative process. Quick Thinking Under Pressure A major highlight of the competition is the Spontaneous category, where teams are ushered into a room and given a problem they have never seen before. They have only minutes to collaborate and provide a creative solution. The fact that both our Lower School and Middle School teams took first place in this category is a testament to their sharp communication skills and ability to think on their feet. Earning these top marks demonstrates a level of teamwork and quick wit that translates far beyond the competition floor. Celebrating the Process While we are proud that all three of our teams are advancing to the State Competition, we are even more proud of the resilience and original thinking these students demonstrated throughout their journey. They have learned that the best solutions often come from listening to your teammates and that through persistence, complex challenges can be transformed into incredible achievements.
